Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Does MomentFold delete photos immediately?

No. MomentFold uses a safe, two-step deletion workflow:

  1. When you swipe or tap Trash, the photo is only marked as staged for deletion inside MomentFold. Your photo remains untouched in Apple Photos.
  2. Photos are only deleted when you open the Review screen and tap Purge. This prompts Apple’s official system confirmation dialog asking for your authorization.
  3. Once approved, the photos are moved to the standard “Recently Deleted” album in Apple Photos, where you can still recover them for up to 30 days.

2. Are my photos uploaded to external servers or AI services?

Never. MomentFold operates with strict, on-device privacy:

  • Your photos and videos never leave your iPhone.
  • All AI and vision analysis (including aesthetic scoring and burst/variant detection) runs 100% locally on your device’s Apple Neural Engine and GPU using Apple’s native Vision framework.
  • MomentFold has no user accounts, no analytics tracking, and no external application servers.

3. What is the difference between Keep, Trash, and Archive?

  • Keep: Marks the photo as a keeper. If you enable “Link Keep with Photos Favorites” in Settings, it also favorites the photo in your Apple Photos library.
  • Trash: Stages the photo for deletion during your next Review & Purge session.
  • Archive: Marks the photo as reviewed and preserves it in Apple Photos, but clears it from your active culling feed.

4. How do I undo an action?

If you tap an action by mistake, simply tap the Undo button in the action rail to reverse your last decision. You can also view and edit staged decisions anytime before purging by visiting the Review screen from the More menu.

5. What is the Activity Calendar and Daily Culling?

In Stats > This Week > “See every day”, you can view your photo capture and review activity on a month-by-month calendar. Tapping any day cell opens a focused culling session containing exactly the photos added on that day. Once all photos from that day have been decided, the cell displays a completed checkmark.

6. How does duplicate and burst photo grouping work?

MomentFold automatically identifies photo bursts and near-duplicates using capture timestamps and on-device visual feature prints. In the feed, groups are collapsed into a stack with the highest-scored “hero” photo displayed on top. You can expand the stack to pick the best shot, or tap the options menu to ungroup photos if you prefer to evaluate them individually.

7. How does iCloud Sync work?

MomentFold offers an optional iCloud sync toggle in App Settings:

  • It synchronizes your app preferences and lifetime purge statistics across your personal Apple devices.
  • All synchronization happens through your private Apple CloudKit container (iCloud.net.yishanhe.momentfold.app).
  • No photos, thumbnails, or image metadata are ever sent through CloudKit.
